To qualify for SSDI benefits in Georgia, you must meet the following two requirements:

• Have worked in jobs covered by Social Security.
• You suffer from a medical condition that meets Social Security’s meaning and standard of disability.

In addition to meeting the definition of disability, you must have worked long enough at a job or through self-employment to qualify for disability benefits.

You should apply for disability benefits as soon as you get disabled. To apply for SSDI benefits, you can do any of the following:

• Complete your application at www.ssa.gov/applyfordisability/
• Call Social Security’s toll-free telephone number 1-800-772-1213. If you are deaf or hard of hearing, you can reach out to Social Security on TTY 1-800-325-0778.
• You can call or visit your local Social Security office.

If you want to win Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) benefits, you must meet the following criteria:

• Having worked in jobs covered by Social Security.
• Suffering from a medical condition that satisfies Social Security’s meaning and standard of disability.

Moreover, you must have paid sufficient Social Security taxes out of income earned at a job or through self-employment to meet Social Security Administration’s standard for SSDI.

There are no conditions that automatically qualify you for disability benefits. However, the Social Security Administration (SSA) maintains a Listing of Impairments, also known as the Blue Book, that contains a list of conditions which the SSA will consider for review for people applying for SSDI or SSI benefits.
