Charles Greer Lumber Company, a Suwanee, Ga based manufacturer of wooden pallets, has once again been cited by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) following numerous alleged safety violations.  Some of the recent violations were the same as ones they have been cites with previously.

Workplace injuries are a serious concern, it seems that Charles Greer Lumber Company fails to take seriously the safety of their employees.   Repeat safety citations for Charles Greer Lumbar Company include absence of barriers to prevent employees from accidentally falling into areas where logs are moved in, failure to ensure sprocket wheels and chains were properly enclosed,  absence of machine guards on the pulley system and failure to provide hearing tests to those workers who are exposed to loud noises in their job duties.

On top of the repeat violations, Charles Greer Lumber Company was also cited with 11 serious safety violations.  These include failure to provide employees who work with chainsaws proper leg protection and absence of machine guards for band saws.  Nearly $88,000 in penalties were proposed along with the citations; the company was given 15 days to either contest the findings of OSHA investigators or come under compliance.

Safety violations are not limited to Charles Greer Lumbar Company.  Every day we talk with employees who have been injured on the job.  Considering all of the violations found with just this one company, it’s easy to see why so many employees suffer serious or fatal injuries on the job.  Unfortunately OSHA only catches a small percentage of companies who routinely violate safety procedures while putting their employees at a risk of loss.  Unfortunately, many employers expect their workers to do their job every day in surroundings that needlessly put their lives at risk.
