A bizarre accident that occurred on Thursday, October 6th in Braselton left one person dead and several injured according to reports. The deadly crash occurred on I-85 in Jackson County in the northbound lanes between Highway 53 and Highway 211 according to officials with the Georgia Department of Transportation. While it is was unconfirmed, some reported a vehicle fire and entrapment in the accident.
The three car crash occurred when an SUV was attempting to pass a tractor-trailer rig while another passenger vehicle was driving partially in the northbound lane and partially in the median. As the sports utility vehicle was attempting to pass the tractor-trailer, it struck the passenger vehicle which then bounced into the tractor-trailer. The person who lost their life was in the passenger car; occupants of the SUV were injured according to police.
Those who were injured were transported to Athens Regional Hospital and Northeast Georgia Medical Center according to Steve Nichols with Jackson County Emergency Services. One victim was transported by a life flight helicopter. Both lanes of I-85 were closed following the crash while emergency responders arrived at the scene.
Why was the passenger vehicle straddling the northbound lane and the median? Was the SUV driving recklessly or at high speed? There are questions that may get answers in the coming weeks as it becomes more evident why the accident took place.
